Biography

Lisa G Westheimer is an artist living and working in West Orange, New Jersey. She received her BA from New York University in 1983 and an MA in Studio Arts (Ceramics) from Montclair State University in 2008. From 1983 to 2006 she co-owned the New York City Building Code consulting firm, The Manhattan Expedition Inc, specializing in loft conversions for artists, temporary structures for performances and high-end residential and commercial spaces in Manhattan.


Post graduation she studied luster firing techniques at The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts in Ojai, CA, and many workshops at Peters Valley School of Craft, which leads her on a determined journey of pushing the boundaries of the media of ceramics and fusible glass.


Her work has been shown nationally and she teaches at Peters Valley School of Craft and the Montclair Art Museum’s Yard School of Art. She has taught alternative firing workshops for The Convent of the Sacred Heart school in NYC and privately. Lisa is the author of Glass Fusing in a Clay Kiln and the videos Horse Hair BBQ and Luster Firing with Lisa G Westheimer.

  

She has served as artist in residence at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange, NJ and a volunteer artifact conservator and taxidermy cleaner at the Thomas Edison National Historic Park in West Orange, NJ.
