Conifer, Colorado is where we usually spend winters and short vacations in the summer and fall. We returned to New Jersey on March 6, 2020, days before the pandemic caused a nation wide shut down. I had the presence of mind to bring home with me some sifted bags of dirt dug from the floor of our lodge pole barn to experiment with as a clay ingredient. (TSA had a field day testing it for explosives much to my chagrin.) Bill had aerial photographs of mountain peaks from his days as a member of Mountain Rescue out of Aspen, Colorado in the 1970’s. I had them transferred into glass decals and fired them onto iridescent glass. The clay made from the dirt fired beautifully. As a bit of my heart is there, I hope to return to Conifer soil very soon.
